Systeme.io Free Plan: Limits and When to Upgrade

Systeme.io has a free plan with no time limit or credit-card requirement. Its published allowance covers a small launch, but free does not mean unlimited capacity. The contact limit matters even if you send only occasional emails.

What is included in the free plan?

The official pricing FAQ lists these allowances:

These are the published headline allowances, not a complete inventory. We could read the FAQ but could not verify the automation-rule, workflow or funnel-step quantities in the detailed comparison table. Do not infer that those resources are unlimited.

What happens if you exceed 2,000 contacts?

For a restricted free account, opt-ins and payments stop working, contact imports are blocked, and email campaigns pause. Scheduled newsletters are not sent; affected schedules are removed rather than automatically replayed when access returns.

Open Profile picture → Settings → My plan to inspect usage. Before a launch or import, resolve excess resources or choose a plan that covers them. Downgrading can also cause a restriction when existing resources exceed the lower plan’s limits.

A small launch: does the allowance fit?

Planning example, not a tested account: you have 800 subscribers and want one signup funnel for a checklist, followed by one paid course. Those headline counts fit the published contact, funnel and course allowances. That does not prove the exact automation you want fits.

Write down the trigger and actions separately: a form submission, delivery of the checklist, and enrollment in a follow-up sequence. Compare that design with the automation allowance shown in your account before importing the whole list.

If you already have 2,400 contacts to migrate, the published free contact allowance does not cover the import. Sending fewer messages does not reduce the number of contacts you are storing.

Test the email sequence before moving your audience

Systeme.io’s campaign setup guide starts under Emails → Campaigns. Create the campaign, add an email, configure its timing and use Save and test. All configured timing conditions must be satisfied before a campaign email sends.

There is a separate risk when editing a live sequence: the official campaign scenarios guide says a new final email can reach people still subscribed after finishing the previous sequence. For a substantial change, it recommends creating a new campaign.

When is a paid plan worth considering?

Our assessment: consider paying when a specific capacity limit blocks a working offer, rather than because a longer feature list looks reassuring. If your current website and email tool already cover that offer, include migration work in the decision.
